Appendices to December 6th. ’09 AGM Report

APPENDICES

President’s Report
*
* The 2009 club meetings at SMMC have worked out satisfactorily with only two occasions when the school have had others activities in the room that we normally use.
* New members have been a welcome addition to our membership this year.
* The email list is, I believe, fulfilling a need for all the member. More contributions sent in by members would be very helpful.
* It is nice to see queries being sent to the List and even better nice to see the answers appearing promptly for which we must thank Bill O’Donnell. We must also thank Bill for the web site that he runs for us too.
* Workshops at the beginning of the year were poorly attended,. I think because the members were frightened of of being thought of as not knowing anything. However, I think those of us who don’t know as much as others have been pleasantly surprised to see all members willing to give a hand to those not as well skilled as themselves.
* One area that was not as good as previous years were the lack of Presentation. Nikki Bowler has designed a new template for us to fill in which I sent out yesterday to members. I will be collating any suggestions that arrive. One has arrived already. We have to thank Nikki for producing the template. She was please that she learnt to do it using her NUMBERS spreadsheet application.
* We have a good relationship with SMMC and I have not received any complaints from the administration. Indeed Joe has told me that they are the first to have issued us with a receipt for our Fees.
* Finally, I would like extend the club’s thanks to Bill O’Donnell for all the help that he provides all members with at the MEETINGS, WORKSHOPS and in his own time.
John Feltham., December 2009.

Secretary’s Report

As Secretary of this club I have to admit that I have very little to report to the membership. The office is much easier in this club than in some others, mainly because the President John Feltham and staunch member Bill O’Donnell, do so much of the work which keeps the club functioning.

My main task has been to take the Minutes for the ordinary meetings, and email those to John. He and Bill make sure they are uploaded to the website. On two occasions I have failed in that duty, for which I apologise to members. On one occasion it was due to my own illness and on another it was because of my husband’s ongoing health issues and so it was unavoidable.

Unfortunately I have not found it possible to attend even one workshop this year, despite the change of night. The change did remove a clash with another organization of which I am a member. Nevertheless, other problems still made it too difficult to participate in the workshops. I hope to attend some next year.

As the duties of secretary are so light and the personalities in the club are all such nice people who are so easy to get along with, perhaps members would expect me to be willing to continue in the role. However I am unable to do so for personal reasons and so I am not accepting a nomination.

I will continue to attend as many meetings as I can, and provide presentations too when the calendar for next year is arranged.

Whoever takes it on for the coming year, I know they will enjoy it as much as I have.

Membership Officer’s Report

This has been another year of fairly stable membership for our group. From a total of 32 members on our books, we maintain an attendance at our monthly meetings of around 12 to 15 members. The monthly forums have a smaller attendance but are much appreciated for the help that is available.

This year, I have been contacted by several people, some interested in joining the group and others seeking help with a problem related to their Macs. Of those indicating an interest in joining the group, several are still considering their situation, while two have actually paid their membership fees and identify as members:

Pam Keir
Lachlan Terry

Some who have contacted the group seeking help have done it through other members but those who were referred (by the Mac Doctors) to me were: Ken Francis (In June 2009) seeking help with IMovies, and Denise Ammidas (In September 2009) seeking urgent help in preparing Invitations. Bill O’Donnell generously offered to contact both of these people and help them sort out their problems. Thanks Bill.

The Good Guys

The decision of The Good Guys to carry Mac computers and make them a special focus in their publicity has sparked a greater interest in NQMUG in the Townsville community. The efforts of our president, John Feltham and member Bill O’Donnell to develop a special relationship with employees at The Good Guys has meant that they readily discuss NQMUG with customers considering changing to a Mac. This is good news in terms of increasing our membership.

Flyer

Following discussion about a new flyer at our November meeting and a follow-up discussion with two or three of our members, I visited The Good Guys to see their range of computers and floated the idea with Sam of having our flyers displayed prominently. She was very enthusiastic about the idea. Flyers will be distributed to other places, too, like The Mac Doctors, JCU’s Mac Shop, etc.

NQMUG exists for the benefit of our members and, in 2010, we look forward to another year of encouraging and offering help to all Mac Users in North Queensland.
