Judy Leong
Has two family members with hotmail addresses which have received messages saying they been spammed. Explanation followed was that these are from people who set up websites to get money from people who click on links in the ‘spam notices’ which take them to sites purporting to have anti-spam or anti-virus software for sale. Ignore them. Do not open them and do not respond. The senders can see if you open them and will continue to target your address with spams.
Joe Leong
No questions.
Bill O’Donnell
Reports that there is a price war going on just now over MAC computers – worth checking out – The Good Guys will also match any discount deals around town. An example is a 15” iMac going for $2815, list price $3199.
Rob Aisthorpe
How to move a font from iMAC to laptop. Drag it from System Font Library to a USB stick. Insert the stick in the destination computer and double click on the icon. It will ask if you want it installed and it will do the navigation for you.
Peter Neuhaus
How to convert analogue video to digital video. Wants to know which converter program to use as magazine articles say the most expensive ones are best because they do enhancements and compensate for loss of resolution. Members explained that it was not necessary to use converter software, just use a digicam connected to the analogue camera and download from that. However, Peter does not have a digicam. Bill O’Donnell volunteered to lend him a digicam to try that way.
Adam Ruxton – Visitor
Reports that he had trouble finding our website. Uses Windows at work but Apple at home. Has spare Macs. Interested in workshops. Just changed from Garage Band to Logic Express.
Nicki Bowler
Wondered which ISP members use as her daughter in Brisbane wants naked adsl and is thinking of iiNet. Ray and Lorna Mead are with iiNet and have been happy with it.
Chris Griggs
No questions.
Dorothy Lucas
Which is a good programme for burning to disks? Consensus – Toast.
Lorna and Ray Mead
Wondered if anyone was having trouble with Snow Leopard. They have a digital photo frame and she uses a card reader to transfer images. Since SL she finds she ends up with duplicates of things that had been on the card but deleted.
• Bill O’Donnell explained that you must also empty the trash with the device still connected to really erase the old image files.
• John Feltham said that he has had problems with not beingt able to move/copy multiple messages to save to a file – in SL he can only do it one at a time.
• Joe Leong says that he gets hung up in SN when trying to drag and drop video files when copying to an external HD – never had a problem with Leopard.
• Peter Neuhaus said he used to make slideshows with images from iPhoto but n SL the system hangs up and does not get the images. JF advised him to come to the next workshop for help.
• Lorna also has a screensaver program which no longer works since she loaded SL. Bill explained that as third party software it is not part of the upgrade and would not have been written to function with the later version of OS. She should contact the supplier.
• John Feltham has Keynote presentations which include videos in some slides. He tried to strip a lot of images and then save it with a new name. System hangs up with Keynote not responding so he left it alone. Came back ages later and found that Keynote had actually finished and also seemed to have saved the file – did it twice.
Teabreak
John Feltham advised that there was no scheduled presentation for the evening and asked members if they thought we should continue with them for this year. He will do one for October but we still need one for Novermber. Barry and Cheryl are willing to do something on photoshop if members would like that, but Cheryl would want to know which aspect members would like to hear about.
Meeting Closed at 21:15hrs.
